H tags have numbers 1-6 with 1 being the biggest heading size. The larger the H tag, the more weight it carries when being indexed. When you are selecting the words to use in your H tag, you should select keywords from your webpage. Some search engines have stopped giving as much weight to H tags, you still need to use them though. They wont hurt your website at all if they are there and the search engines that do use them wont give your page as much weight without them. Google suggests that if you are using an H tag, that the text in that tag must be more important than the content on the rest of the page. The keywords should not be in every sentence or every other sentence of the content on the webpage. The web crawlers will view your H tag and then the page content and over using keywords can cause a reverse effect.
